Deep Spiritual Faith
On March 21, 1843, John Hack, the town’s founding father, deeded four acres of his original homestead to the Catholic Bishop of Vincennes and it was upon this land that the town’s first church was built.
As the community grew, so did the needs of the church for a larger space. The humble beginnings of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church gave way to an ever-growing congregation and the dedication of three newer and larger churches over the years, with descendents of John Hack still attending. A most recent groundbreaking ceremony started yet another expansion for a new church designed to seat 1,200.
The strength of our faith community is evidenced by many denominations making St. John their home. Spiritual guidance and strong family values are the backbone of Suncrest Christian Church and Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church, and along with Community Baptist, Central Assembly of God, and Crossroads Community Church, our faith family continues its involvement in outreach and social ministry programs as an integral part of our well-being.
St. John is also home to Boric Religious Supply, a family owned business projecting a strong community and county-wide presence.
