Residents find themselves keeping company with some of the finest scholars in the world. Long known as the home of the University of Notre Dame, South Bend attracts the cream of the crop, whether studying business, law, engineering or liberal arts. The campus alone is a visitor attraction as people come to see the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes and, of course, "the House That Rockne Built" Notre Dame Stadium, home of multiple national champions. Across the street, the all-female Saint Mary's College and co-ed Holy Cross College beckon learners interested in four-year liberal arts and science degrees, and two-year and four-year liberal arts/business degrees respectively. Bethel College in Mishawaka rounds out the private choices, bringing a Christian doctrine to 60 liberal arts degree programs. Indiana University South Bend one of the eight campuses in the public Indiana University system enrolls more than 7,000 students pursuing 113 academic undergraduate and graduate programs. Purdue University School of Technology provides top-notch technical training. Tri-State University South Bend offers bachelor degrees in criminal justice as part of Tri-State University in Angola. Michiana College fills the niche for degree, diploma and certificate programs in various medical, legal and business specialties. Ivy Tech State College covers the job-related technical skills and grants associate degrees. Davenport University also provides career education options for area adults seeking marketable skills. For
