Thanks to the unique competition and cooperation our hospitals – Memorial Hospital of South Bend, Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend and Mishawaka campuses – encourage, residents can count on finding the latest technology and innovative therapies within easy reach.

For instance, construction cranes at Memorial Hospital are erecting a new $40 million heart center to provide intensive and intermediate care. In this concept, caregivers will bring equipment and staff to the room assigned to each patient rather than moving the patient from spot to spot depending on their healing progress. The three-story addition is scheduled for completion in 2005. Memorial just completed a $34 million expansion for the trauma center and birthing center. This hospital also teamed up with DuPont to pioneer important new patient safety programs for the healthcare industry.

Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Inc. is part of the Trinity Health Network of Novi, Michigan – the nation's fourth largest Catholic healthcare system – and boasts a RapidScan system for quick, stressfree coronary artery testing and lung cancer detection. Experts here recently rolled out an exclusive weight reduction program to help residents ward off unhealthy futures. St. Joseph County is also home to one of the preeminent behavioral healthcare facilities in the region, serving the well-being of patients for more than 50 years. Madison Center offers services, treatment and education to adults, seniors, children and adolescents for mental health and substance abuse-related issues.

Healthcare clinics, 24-hour immediate care facilities, counseling support groups, assisted living residences and nursing homes also address families' common medical needs.
