In Ankeny, swimmers can enjoy the newly built Cascade Falls Aquatic Center in Prairie Trail, Prairie Ridge Family Aquatic Center or the eight-lane pool at the Ankeny Family YMCA. The YMCA also offers a gymnasium, a workout room and more. Various fitness centers located around the city provide exercise options to all residents. Ankeny is home to the Prairie Ridge Center Youth Sports Complex, the first of its kind in Iowa. A staggering 15 baseball fields, 3 football fields, 11 soccer fields and 6 softball fields are enough to accommodate the team sporting needs of youth all over the area.
Lush green spaces for exploration are available as well. Ankeny boasts 35 parks with over 2800 acres of fields, picnics, games, relaxation and 34 miles of paved trails for hiking or biking. For those who wish to hit the links, the city also has three courses: Otter Creek Golf Course, a public course; Briarwood Golf Course and Ankeny Golf and Country Club; private courses, are all led by PGA professionals. Saylorville Dam and Big Creek Lake form nearly 6000 acres for fishing, camping and hiking. With all of the recreational opportunities in Ankeny, there’s no excuse not to get up and go.
