Ankeny Arts and Entertainment
Ankeny is sprinkled with cultural venues close to home. Ankeny is proud of the existing Uptown Ankeny featuring many business as the hometown flavor of the community.
Lovers of fine art can stop by the Ankeny Art Center and view one of its rotating art exhibits, participate in on of its beginner’s art classes or purchase some pieces for their homes at an art auction. Cinema buffs can see first-run movies at the Springwood 9 Theatre. The Kirkendall Public Library offers over 57,000 books for research or pleasure. In addition, the library holds events like the annual Ankeny Cultural Festival which highlights world cultures with food, dance, displays and crafts. The Ankeny Historical Society has a house and museum both rich with heritage from the early settlers in Ankeny.
Another yearly staple of the city is Santa’s North Pole Village, a huge craft show that draws vendors from all over the region. SummerFest, held every second weekend of July, is a huge community event that combines food, music and competition to celebrate the summer. Ankeny High School is a magnet for superb marching when the Ankeny Area Chamber of Commerce hosts Celebration In Brass, a Drum Corps International competition, each summer. The nearby Des Moines area is also a valuable source of cultural delights.
