A bevy of options for exercise and fresh air awaits in Ankeny.
Swimmers can enjoy the Prairie Ridge Family Aquatic Center or the eight-lane pool at the Ankeny Family YMCA. The YMCA also offers a gymnasium, a workout room and more. Ankeny is home to the Prairie Ridge Center Youth Sports Complex, the first of its kind in Iowa. A staggering 15 baseball fields, six football fields, 11 soccer fields and six softball fields are enough to accommodate the team sporting needs of youth from all over the area.
Lush green spaces for exploration are available as well. Ankeny boasts 18 parks with over 2800 acres of fields and trails for hiking, picnics, games, relaxation and more. For those who wish to hit the links, the city also has three golf courses: Briarwood Golf Course and Otter Creek Golf Course, both public courses, and Ankeny Golf and Country Club, a private course, are all led by PGA professionals. Saylorville Dam and Big Creek Lake form nearly 6000 acres for fishing, camping and hiking. With all of the recreational opportunities in Ankeny, there’s no excuse not to get up and go.
