Boone Tourism
Boone and Boone County have a wide variety of attractions to fill up your days.
You can ride the train at the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad, reserve a relaxing dinner on their dinner train, tour Mamie Doud Eisenhower’s Birthplace, drive the historic Dragoon Trail, shop in our many retail stores, visit one of our many city or county parks and enjoy the beauty of the Iowa Arboretum. Perhaps you want to ski or snowboard in the winter, or rent a canoe in the summer at Seven Oaks Recreation Area or you may be coming for a visit at one of our welcoming motels or area camps.
Stop and view the longest and highest steel double track railroad bridge in the world — the Kate Shelley Memorial High Bridge, fish in the Des Moines River or at Don Williams Park, listen to the Iowa Municipal Band Festival, and so much more. All of these attractions draw over a quarter of a million visitors to the Boone area each year.
Pufferbilly Days™ is our annual community festival that celebrates our railroad heritage. This three-day festival features one of the largest parades in the state of Iowa, a craft fair with over 120 booth spaces, spike driving contest, train rides and a model railroad display and swap meet. We also have three nights of outstanding entertainment, which have featured such acts as Bobby Vee, Tommy Roe, and Johnny Tillotson in past years.
If you are interested in the arts, Boone has several opportunities for you to actively participate. The Boone Community Theatre presents productions several times each year and the Boone Municipal Band offers a series of outdoor, summer concerts at the Herman Park Pavilion.
Des Moines Area Community College and Boone High School also have active drama departments. The Boone High School Music Department also has numerous concerts and performances throughout the school year.
