The community is situated right alongside the new Avenue of the Saints four-lane divided highway which eventually will connect St. Louis and the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul. Furthermore, Charles City is only 40 minutes from Interstate 90 and 35 minutes from I-35. The Charles City Municipal Airport features a 4,000-foot, hard-surface runway as well as two shorter grass runways, and is fully equipped with UNICOM radio, VOR, non-directional beacon and an instrument landing system. Charter flight and plane rental service is offered, as well as a top-notch flight maintenance and repair shop. Northwest Airlink and United Express service is also available at the nearby Mason City Municipal Airport 30 minutes to the west, while United, American, Transworld and Northwest Airlines all are available out of the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Airport 45 minutes south of Charles City. Rail service through town is offered by the Canadian National/ Illinois Central, I & M Rail Link and LLC Railroads. A piggyback ramp with daily switching service is also available. A total of 19 motor freight carriers Ð including three interstate firms and a bulk liquid hauler Ð serve the Charles City area. The Jefferson Bus Lines offers regular service as well, with a bus stop located at 1101 Gilbert St. (C&C Auto). In-town taxi service is offered by Charles City Taxi (641-228-6846), with the Floyd County Taxi service (same number) providing transportation around the county, as well as shuttle service to Mason City.
