 Quality
education is something Iowans have always been known for and have taken
pride in, and America's Hometown is no exception. Charles City offers
numerous educational opportunities, all of which adhere to Iowa's high
standards. The Charles City Community School District features three elementary
schools (K-5), a middle school (6-8) and a modern high school facility
(9-12). Charles City public schools are wired for success in terms of
technology, with plenty of hands-on computer and Internet access, as well
as a cable Ôloop' system from school to school which allows for high-speed
data and video transmissions from building to building or to every school
at the same time.
In a state known
for its quality education, the Charles City Community School District
actually ranks above the state ACT testing average in math (24.1 to 22.7),
reading (25.9 to 23.3), science (24.7 to 23.0) and overall composite score
(24.8 to 23.0). Charles City Community Schools also offer a wide range
of choices and opportunities for their students, both inside and outside
the classroom. From sports to speech and drama, newspaper to yearbook,
FFA to the GRAMMY award-winning music program, extra-curricular activities
at Charles City are Ôextra' special. In addition, the Charles City Community
School District provides the Carrie Lane High School, an alternative school
designed to help kids who leave school early for whatever reason, a chance
to earn their equivalence diploma.
Immaculate
Conception School is a private, K-6 Catholic school operated by the local
parish, while the Community Christian School is a private, K-12 school
teaching a more Christian-based curriculum. There are a variety of pre-schools
to choose from too, as well as the soon-to-open TLC: The
Learning Center that will offer professional pre-school instruction as
well as community day care services in a convenient downtown location.
TLC will be part of a comprehensive ÔFamily Resource Center' facility
which will also house the Area Education Agency offices and Head Start
program. America's Hometown has you covered for post-high school education
too, with a North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) satellite center
in town. With its main campus less than half an hour away, NIACC offers
a wide range of both day and evening courses in Charles City on a regular
basis.
