Clinton provides a variety of quality cultural options generally found only in much larger communities, and is one of the smallest cities in the United States to support a full, professional symphony orchestra that performs classical concerts throughout the year. Guest soloists are featured regularly. Enjoy big-city excitement of live symphonic music in the warm hospitality of our community with the Clinton Symphony Orchestra.

From June through mid-August, come see Broadway-quality productions at the Lillian Russell Theatre aboard the Clinton Area Showboat, a restored old river paddle wheeler now dry-docked on the beautiful riverfront in Clinton. A troupe of talented Midwest actors, Broadway professionals and seasoned local actors provide a summer of great musicals and hilarious comedies.

Gateway Contemporary Ballet, Clinton’s resident dance company, has been bringing the delight of classical and modern dance to the area for more than 18 years. Whether it’s a full-length ballet in the spring, free riverfront concerts in the summer or a showcase of guest artists in the fall, the Gateway Contemporary Ballet helps uphold Iowa’s reputation as one of the most culturally aware places in the country.

The River Arts Center, which is operated by the Clinton Art Association, is located in historic downtown Clinton. The center displays new exhibits in a variety of media. The center also offers classes and workshops taught by local artists and well-known Iowa artists. The River Center Arts Center houses the Best Cellar Theatre, which has year-round children and adult entertainment showcasing local talent.
