Healthcare in the Clinton Area

Our local facility is in the heart of Clinton and provides emergency medical treatment with an Air Flight/EMT ambulance service available to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, giving area residents access to the highest quality healthcare around.

Mercy Medical Center located in Clinton is committed to excellence with advanced technology and skilled caregivers conveniently close to home. Traditional hospital services are located at Mercy’s North Campus, while the South Campus is home to various outpatient services and inpatient rehabilitation. The health system also has two nursing facilities with highly satisfied residents: Mercy Living Center – North (formerly Wyndcrest) and Mercy Living Center–South (formerly Bluff Terrace).

Mercy’s Radiation Oncology Center helps to keep cancer treatments close to home. This is a joint service of the Department of Radiation Oncology of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic. Mercy also offers birthing, cardiac, surgical, emergency, diagnostic imaging, hospice and home care services, as well as home medical equipment.

In addition, a number of Mercy programs help to meet specific community needs. A renal dialysis program and memory loss program (a 23-bed center for dementia care) are among these specialized services.

Proving its progressiveness, Mercy has made a significant investment in state-of-the-art technology by transitioning to an electronic medical record (EMR) system. As a result, physicians and nurses now use a computer or hand-held device to enter most orders and update patient charts. The goal of the new system is to enhance the quality of care provided and increase patient safety.

The hospital has received the 2008 Distinguished Hospital Award for Patient SafetyTM as part of an independent study by HealthGrades, a leading healthcare ratings company. Out of nearly 5,000 hospitals rated, Mercy ranked in the top five percent.

Medical Associates is a 40-doctor multi-specialty group located in Clinton. The group was founded in 1963, when Dr. George York, along with 10 other physicians, had a vision of providing comprehensive services in one location. It has steadily grown to meet the increasing need for quality healthcare. It is a quality-driven, modern facility that has recently expanded up to 150,000 square feet, consisting of a surgery center, laser center, cancer center, imaging center and physician offices. It also has three satellite clinics in Dewitt, Fulton and Morrison.

Medical care for over 200,000 patient visits annually is only possible because of its 45 providers, 98 percent of whom are Board Certified in the fields of allergy, cardiology, family practice, gastroenterology, general surgery, hematology/oncology, internal medicine, nephrology, neurology, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery, otolaryngology and head and neck surgery, pathology, pediatrics, podiatry, pulmonary medicine, rheumatology, urology and vascular and thoracic surgery.

With an ongoing commitment to quality healthcare, Medical Associates has been in the forefront of the digital revolution. Medical Associates has made significant investments in electronic medical records and has not made a paper chart since January 2004. It has the only 64-slice CT in eastern Iowa, making world class imaging technology available to the residents and surrounding area of Clinton County. Effective August 2008, the digital revolution will be almost complete when physicians will no longer need to get x-ray films. They will be able to read x-rays and other images on digital monitors providing access to patient data wherever they are at any time of the day.

Comprehensive care is enhanced by the support of its extensive on-site ancillary services consisting of a laboratory, x-ray, digital mammography, nuclear cardiology, hearing and vision screening, nutritional and diabetic counseling, ultrasounds, echo cardiography, MRIs and multi-slice CTs.
