Education

From preschool through graduate degrees, residents in the Clinton area have access to a wide range of learning opportunities at local education institutions. Citizens of our area place great emphasis on education with outstanding results. Student reading and math achievement is consistently above the national average; high school students annually outscore the national and state averages on the ACT college entrance exam by a substantial amount. Nearly 80 percent of area high school graduates continue their education.

The Clinton Community School District serves an approximate student population of 4,200 (pre-kindergarten through 12th grade). The district operates six instructional buildings including four elementary schools, one middle school and a high school, as well as a transportation facility and a plant services maintenance department.

Camanche Community School District is spread out over a large portion of Camanche. The elementary school (K-4) is located in the northeastern part of town and the middle school (grades 5-8) and high school (grades 9-12) are located about one mile southwest of the elementary school.

Northeast Community School District is comprised of five small communities (Charlotte, Goose Lake, Andover, Bryant, and Elvira) and encompasses an area covering 178 square miles. Northeast has a total enrollment of 800 students and is located in Goose Lake, Iowa.

Located in Clinton, Prince of Peace Academy and College Preparatory and Prince of Peace Early Learning Center offer Catholic education for preschool through 12th grade students.

Prince of Peace offers small class sizes and provides individual attention to each student, and an after-school program, which provides students with after-school care for both fun and learning activities for students. Unity Christian School in Fulton, Illinois, provides the best in an accredited, independent board-governed college prep education, as well as exciting, year-round child services in day care, preschool and after-school care. Unity Christian School was established more than 80 years ago by parents who believed biblical values must be used in every aspect of classroom instruction and discipline.

The community is home to Clinton Community College, part of the Eastern Iowa Community College District. Clinton Community College is a comprehensive community college that offers a variety of college transfer programs, career technology programs, courses for high school completion and literacy and training and retraining programs. The college has an annual enrollment of 1,600 students with an additional 13,000 people served through the continuing education programs. Transfer agreements make it possible to start a college career close to home and easily transfer to a four-year college or university.

Ashford University (AU) is a private academic institution, regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. AU provides affordable, specialized, personal, innovative and rewarding education opportunities through a variety of on-campus and online associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. The University boasts a diverse student culture that is rich in history, innovation and academic excellence. AU was founded in 1918 by the Sisters of St. Francis in Clinton, Iowa. Mount St. Clare College, as it was first named, was intended to serve the higher education needs of residents in Clinton and the surrounding areas. In 2005, its name was changed to Ashford University. AU students come from all 50 states, as well as from the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands and various Department of Defense sites overseas. AU fields intercollegiate teams, called the Saints, in 17 sports. “Champ,” a St. Bernard, is the Saints’ mascot. In addition, there are many on-campus student organizations.
