Expansive unobstructed views of the Mississippi River can be enjoyed from Riverview Park, which is also home to many events and attractions. The Old Fort Madison replica stands guard, and allows guests to relive the outpost days and the events of yesteryear. Engine 2913 commemorates the close relationship Fort Madison had with the Santa Fe Railroad. These community icons are surrounded by acres of green space – which is accented by Kuhlmeier Memorial Fountain reflecting pond and ice-skating rink, the Veterans Memorial and a lighted walking path.

The Tri-State Rodeo was established in 1948, and continues to bring PRCA Rodeo Action and top entertainment to more than 25,000 fans annually. A strong Hispanic culture in the community is visible through local eateries and events. The Mexican Fiesta is a festival that features traditional Mexican food, music, dancing and a carnival. The best “snowfall” of the year is held on the Friday after Thanksgiving when the Parade of Lights arrives in town amid a flurry of sparkling snowflakes and illuminated floats. More than 50 shimmering floats glide down Avenue G along with marching bands and carolers.

Balloons over the Mississippi is an event not to be missed. Held in Rodeo Park, the competitive balloon race is free of charge. In addition to the gorgeous hot air balloons that fill the sky are inflatables, music and airplane rides. If you are in the area in mid-May, make sure to check out Simply the Blues blues festival. Going into its 5th year, the festival is held at C.E. Richards Rodeo Arena and features the nation’s top blues entertainment. Margaritaville in the Mississippi, held in June, and the Fall Festival are further popular events in the Fort Madison Area.
