There is always something to do in Grinnell. From holiday-themed festivities to annual events that celebrate local culture, the city is brimming with activity.
Happy Days harkens back to the 50s with classic car shows, a cruise night, music, carnival rides, and more. Ag Appreciation Day tributes local farmers with one of Iowa’s largest displays of restored classic farm machinery. Activities include a parade, auction, tractor pull, exhibitions, and food vendors. The annual Jingle Bell Holiday is held on the first Friday in December. Strolling musicians, carriage rides, a lighted holiday parade, and a live nativity are all a part of the special festivities.
Kites Over Grinnell is a favorite event of children and adults. Kite building workshops and flying demonstrations give way to an afternoon of kite flying competitions and a lighted night-flying session. The American Kitefliers Association-sanctioned event takes place in May.
Other local events include weekly summer music performances, vintage auto shows, the annual homecoming parade, and more.
Visitors to the area have a variety of accommodations available that suit most needs. Cozy bed and breakfasts offer guests quaint retreats in historic and charming surroundings while quality hotels and motels offer modern convenience and business-travel amenities.
