Government
Grinnell functions under a Mayor-Council (with an appointed manager) form of government. The City Council consists of six members (two members elected at-large and four members elected by ward) and a Mayor elected at-large.
The city of Grinnell provides most local governmental functions, including water utilities. A Fire Department and Police Department ensure the safety of community members. The Fire Department consists of one full-time Chief, four full-time drivers, and 22 volunteer firefighters.
The Police Department employs 15 certified officers, seven reserve officers, and two clerks. The department has a fleet of six patrol cars, four mountain bikes, and several officers on foot patrol.
