Keokuk, Iowa home of 12,000 hardworking citizens who enjoy getting "CAUGHT DOING GOOD". Named after Chief Keokuk, leader of the Sac Indians, Keokuk enjoys a long rich history, directly connected to the granddaddy of all the American rivers, the mighty Mississippi. Located at the confluence of the Des Moines and Mississippi Rivers, the citizens of Keokuk are a very proud bunch, dedicated to traditional and successful Midwestern values with a "can do" spirit. We are extremely proud that Chief Keokuks historically documented attributes mirror our citys image. Chief Keokuk was known to always put "his best foot forward," continually played the genial host of perfection and insisted on projecting the new ways of accomplishing results; it is only fitting that his namesake, the City of Keokuk, is known in similar fashion. Commerce, a strong industrial base, congeniality, a highly skilled workforce and cooperation are keys to Keokuks success. The City of Keokuk truly enjoys fruitful and richly productive relationships with the Keokuk Area Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Keokuk Inc., Keokuk Area Convention and Tourism Bureau and Keokuk Economic Development Corporation. Working in partnership, we strive daily to make our citizens and our visitors proud of Keokuk, the Gateway City. Keokuks breathtaking scenic beauty, our river heritage, employment opportunities, recreational and social opportunities, and work ethic with an emphasis on family values combine to provide a home whose future is extremely bright. I welcome any and all that wish to share our wonderful past and our prosperous future. Please come and witness Keokuk being "CAUGHT DOING GOOD".
Respectfully, David A. Gudgel Proud Mayor of Keokuk
