Maquoketa is ideally located between two substantial urban centers the Quad Cities to the south and Dubuque to the north. The completion of Highway 61 as a four-lane expressway effectively puts Maquoketa on the interstate system, also providing very fast access to both urban centers. This makes Maquoketa a logical place of residence for regional commuters and gives Maquoketa excellent regional access. Perhaps more importantly, location and transportation assets have proved attractive to major industries requiring access, as demonstrated by the recruitment of Generac Power Systems and Family Dollar Distribution Center projects. U.S. Highway
20 is 30 miles to the north; U.S. Highway 30 is 20 miles to the south;
Interstate 80 is 30 miles to the south. Rail service is available 20 miles
away for the convenience of area industries. For those who require air travel, Maquoketa Municipal Airport is located three miles west of Maquoketa. Dubuque Regional Airport, located approximately 30 minutes from Maquoketa, offers service to Chicagos OHare International Airport on American Eagle Airlines and service to Minneapolis/St Pauls International Airport on Northwest Airlink; six daily flights are available. Quad Cities International Airport in Moline offers national and international travel on six major airlines.
