Iowa River Hospice, a community-based hospice organization, is in the process of building the Hospice Home, a $2.1 million facility offering a home-like atmosphere for terminally ill patients, regardless of illness. Hospice Home anticipates serving at least 30 patients a month, 360 patients a year, along with approximately 1,000 family members annually. The six-bed home will serve as an affordable alternative for patients, as it is one-third of the cost of a traditional medical setting, and is expected to be completed in 2009.
