Cerro Gordo County is centered in the nation’s heartland, surrounded by the beautiful lakes and rivers of the north- central portion of Iowa.
Willow Creek and the Winnebago River converge in the county to form the perfect spot for growth and development. Clear Lake (the third-largest lake in the state) adds to the charm and beauty of the area.
Interstate 35 and U.S. Highway 18 intersect in Mason City, providing easy access to the county.
Eleven cities and towns dot the map in the 568 square mile countryside. With a population of 29,172, Mason City is the county seat and the largest city in the county.
In 2007, Mason City was designated by the State of Iowa as an Iowa Great Place. Clear Lake is home to more than 8,000 residents, but the population swells in the summertime with visitors enjoying lakeside activities.
The small towns of Dougherty, Meservey, Nora Springs, Plymouth, Rock Falls, Rockwell, Swaledale, Thornton and Ventura may be small in number of residents, but they're large in community spirit. These towns offer the simple country life so widely sought, while the large communities offer handy household staples and big city amenities.
