It is well known among local organizations that Mount Pleasant has a long history of providing for and championing its business community. In fact, Mount Pleasant was the first community in Iowa to offer industrial revenue bonds, and today the community works through the Mount Pleasant Area Development Commission (a partner of the Mount Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance) to aggressively support business by extending Tax Increment Financing incentives and tax abatements as appropriate.

Mount Pleasant is home to its own Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) office, located at 217 E. Monroe. This state agency offers a multitude of services designed to meet the workforce needs of area businesses. Through the Workforce Center, both employees and employers can access job placement services, unemployment services, work authorization, employers’ services, PROMISE job programs, veterans services, Workforce Investment Act services and career counseling. The center is equipped with a resource room offering computerized job search services, a resume service, career exploration information, labor market information, typing testing and tutorial services.
Further benefits supplied to Mount Pleasant businesses can be accessed through the city’s three industrial park areas, readily available to serve facility needs. These parks include Crossroads Industrial Park, a 60-acre site offering established infrastructure, streets and a rail spurt; the 30-acre Hayes Industrial Park; and Industrial Site West, which sits upon 132 acres.
