The department, which is composed of a police chief, a lieutenant/criminal investigator, three sergeants and eight patrol officers, along with a full-time community services officer, is dedicated to the principles of integrity, respect, fairness and professionalism.
The Mount Pleasant Fire and Rescue Department is also a vital entity in assuring safety in the community. Comprised of 26 voluntary firefighters, five voluntary officers and two supplemental reserve members, the department responds to around 150 service calls each year.
The City’s Public Works Department is responsible for the conduct of several divisions, which include the Roadway or Street Division, Storm and Sanitary Sewer Division, Solid Waste Division, Waste Water Treatment Division, Cemetery Division and Airport Division.
Mount Pleasant’s Park and Recreation Department has a mission to enhance the standard of living for residents through an impressive, well-maintained system of public parks, facilities and recreational programming for people of all ages. The department oversees 10 park sites, plus a golf driving range, which are all complemented by year-round programs and events.
Additionally, the City offers a full spectrum of utility services through Mount Pleasant Utilities, a city-owned municipal utility governed by a five-member Board of Trustees. These trustees are appointed by the mayor and serve six-year staggered terms. Water and electrical services are provided through Mount Pleasant Utilities, while Alliant Energy affords natural gas services to both residential and business customers within the city.
