Nestled in the heart of the city, vibrant Downtown Mount Pleasant is the place to be for all your retail needs. At first glance, it appears as though time has stood still in this historic district. While the downtown is distinguished by its Victorian street lamps and charming, turn-of-the-century brick buildings, the community’s array of unique retailers provide an appealing mix of traditional and decidedly modern wares.
The nine-block downtown district is home to a blend of clothing stores, gift boutiques and specialty shops, in addition to great dining establishments and service-oriented businesses. Downtown merchants and building owners are supported by Main Street Mount Pleasant, a nationally recognized downtown revitalization program. Main Street Mount Pleasant was instituted in 2002 after acceptance into Main Street Iowa. Four functioning committees – Organization, Design, Promotion and Business Improvement – work closely to enhance the economic and cultural vitality of Mount Pleasant’s central business district.
Outside of the historic downtown district, shoppers will discover a wide selection of retailers representing a mix of national chain franchises and locally owned businesses. Antiques, gifts, home furnishings, grocers and sporting goods are just a few of the many products found throughout Mount Pleasant’s picturesque shopping community.
