In Newton…We Saved A Place For YOU! A place where historic buildings house one-of-a-kind shops you’ll love to explore. While you shop, you’ll experience the architecture of years gone by, from our unique courthouse to historic churches. Newton is home to three attractions on the National Register of Historic Places with the Jasper County Courthouse, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and LaCorsette Maison Inn. Maytag Park has also recently been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

If you enjoy spending time outside, Newton is the perfect place to visit. You’ll enjoy nature at the Newton Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, can explore an authentic grange at Sugar Grove Vineyard and Gathering Place, or you can speed things up with world-class racing at Iowa Speedway that includes IndyCar and NASCAR Nationwide among their line-up of racing.

Art and culture are alive and thriving in Newton. We’re known for our outdoor sculptures located throughout the city and you’ll find beautiful murals on many of our downtown buildings. There are over 70 sculptures and murals around the community and there are maps available to take a driving tour to enjoy them all. The Centre for Arts & Artists houses many artist studios and art for your enjoyment as well.Take a stroll through the Jasper County Historical Museum in Newton where you will see artifacts of the county displayed in individual room settings, including a country store, a new agricultural building, a reproduction of a Victorian home and a 1930’s home, and tools used by early settlers. The largest exhibit in the museum recognizes the growth of the Maytag Company through examples of many products it manufactured since the first washing machine was produced under the Maytag label in 1907. And don’t forget to check out the Blacksmith Shop!

Newton is such a unique place. You’ll never tire of exploring all we have to offer—from catching a movie on one of only three drive-in movie theatres left in Iowa; touring Maytag Dairy Farms, home of the internationally famous Maytag Blue Cheese, and then sampling and shopping from their local cheese case; to walking or riding your bikes on our city bike trails.

There is so much to do and see in Newton and the greater Newton area, but when you’re ready to sit back and relax, enjoy one of our many local restaurants, and then settle in for the night at a local hotel or motel or take pleasure in an exclusive evening at one of our two local bed and breakfasts.
