The Newton government continuously advocates for a high quality of life for its residents through an array of programs, economic and residential development and more. The Mayor of Newton is elected into a two-year term, while the six City Council members are elected into four-year terms. The City Council consists of one member from each of Newton’s four wards and two selected at-large. The council meets every first and third Monday of each month at City Hall.
Additionally, the government promotes safety throughout the city. Twenty-four sworn officers and a six-member staff make up the Newton Police Department, while 27 full-time firefighters at one location in Newton serve as the Newton Fire Department.
