Oskaloosa has a strong seasonal visitor population with approximately 115,000 attending the community’s many special events and attractions and another 229,000 visiting local recreation areas.

The Bandstand and the City Square, which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, are the home for many community events including the well-known Art on the Square, Sweet Corn Serenade and Craft Show, and the number one holiday event in Iowa, the Lighted Christmas Parade. During the summer, band concerts are presented by the Oskaloosa Municipal Band on Thursday nights. These concerts have been performed for 132 consecutive years.

Other attractions which draw visitors to Oskaloosa are the Nelson Pioneer Farm and the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds offer auto racing every Wednesday night in April through August and harness racing in July. The Southern Iowa Fair is also held in July.
