The auditorium has premium seating for 700 patrons. It has a state-of-the-art light and sound system. The specially equipped sound system transmits audio to headsets for the hearing impaired. There is an orchestra pit, a "black box" performance/rehearsal area, a 55 by 24 community meeting/conference room, and a food preparation area located in the auditorium. The Oskaloosa Public Library has been recently
renovated and expanded. The renovations were done on the original library
building, which was established in 1902 when Andrew Carnegie agreed to
donate $20,000 toward a library building. By preserving the Carnegie Building
and enhancing it, the new library adds to the historical significance
of downtown Oskaloosa. The Nelson Pioneer Farm and Museum opened in April, 2000. It is the first museum dedicated to the pioneer farmer. Some of the calendar events which happen yearly in and around the Oskaloosa area are: the annual Business Festival, which is sponsored by the Oskaloosa Area Chamber & Development Group and Main Streets Art on the Square. Art on the Square features the work of artists from all over the country. There is also the Rollin Oldies Car Show and the Southern Iowa Fair. In addition, there is the Sweet Corn Serenade & Craft Show, Sprint Car Races, Nelson Pioneer Fall Festival, OskyFest, Trick or Treat Parade, Lighted Christmas Parade, Festival of Christmas Delights, and the Annual Live Drive-Thru Nativity, which will be celebrating its 20th year in 2000.
