Iowa has often been referred to as the “Food Capital of the World.” The Ottumwa region specifically is known for its agricultural products, including corn, soybeans, and hogs. A large part of the economy is agriculture production, however, the processing of agricultural products is an equally significant portion of commerce in Ottumwa. Major employers in the manufacturing sector include a John Deere plant, Cargill Meat Solutions, Cargill Eddyville Complex, Cadbury Schweppes American Bottling, and Winbco Tank Company.
