History

Acadia Parish is rich with history, including thriving small towns that date back to the 1800s. Your first stop will be the parish seat, Crowley, which dates back to 1887. As a statement to the parish’s deep ties with agriculture, Crowley is also known as the Rice Capital of America. Although rice has always been the major agricultural crop in Acadia Parish, crawfish, also known as mud bugs, runs a close second. Crawfish are raised and harvested between rice crops. These miniature lobsters are delicious any way you prepare them, boiled, fried, in gravy, and even in salads.
