Note from the Chairman

Things are looking GREAT for 2008! With the growth in our parish and our business community, it’s hard to believe the national media is talking of a recession. Our Ascension Chamber anticipates growth throughout 2008, and with your help, we can assure the Chamber’s continued success. Last year, we were involved in the political process and represented our business community on numerous issues like the parish elections and appearing before the state legislature. In 2008, we will continue to monitor the new governor and legislature and remain engaged in local issues, such as the District Attorney’s race, the Ascension Parish Government; and during the upcoming legislative session, we will track bills that could affect our members, and take appropriate action when necessary. Also, we will continue to call on some of our members to participate in “focus groups,” which last year resulted in a monthly luncheon business meeting highlighting some of our members and providing them the opportunity to “show off their products and services.” It was extremely successful and we will plan to have more of those types of functions the rest of the year. I am asking our Board of Directors to dedicate much attention during 2008 to “member services” by offering assistance with business operations and opportunities for success. Please let us hear from you; what would help your business or organization be more successful? Would seminars on marketing, accounting, advertising, human resources or some other discipline of business help? Please let us know what you would like to have the Chamber do for you, and then “get involved” in your Chamber. To get involved, simply contact the Chamber office and ask to serve on one of our committees, or help with an event planning, coordination or production, Leadership Ascension, Golf Ascension, Christmas Parade or any of the other fun-filled events we will be sponsoring during the year. I hope to see each of you soon at a Chamber function, and remember, with your help, we will be certain to have a GREAT 2008!
