Donaldsonville is the seat for Ascension Parish, and from 1830 to 1831, it was the Capital City of Louisiana. It is a city filled with friendly people, good food and lots of history. We are surrounded by sugar cane and petrochemical plants, which are the main sources of employment in our community. Every year, we have The Juneteenth Celebration, and Donaldsonville is the home of the Sunshine Festival.
We have two wonderful museums located in our city’s Historical District: the African American Museum, located on Charles Street, and the Historic Donaldsonville Museum, located on Veterans Boulevard. On Railroad Avenue, there are antique shops, bed and breakfast inns, restaurants, our Chamber of Commerce and much more. While here, please visit Rossie’s store and see the great paintings of our hometown artist, Alvin Batiste, whose paintings are sold around the country.
We have begun the development of our Industrial and Technology Park, by which we hope to attract business from around the country. As we continue to grow we will stay committed to being a city of great history and wonderful hospitality.
