Welcome from the Ascension Parish President

Ascension Parish President

Welcome to Ascension Parish – the gateway to growth and prosperity in south Louisiana. Ascension Parish continues to be the fastest growing parish in the state and its people are some of the most hospitable anywhere.

Together, we have built a community populated with hard-working citizens, high-performing schools and rich cultural traditions.

Located in the enviable “hotspot” between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, Ascension Parish is home to some of the south’s most interesting tourist attractions, including nearly a dozen antebellum plantation homes. We are known for some of the best jambalaya and Creole and Cajun cuisine in the country.

We are rooted in a rich historical culture – Ascension was one of the 19 parishes of the Territory of Orleans. We were subdivided by the territorial legislature in 1807 and celebrated our bicentennial in 2007. After all, our parish has been blessed with industrious, creative and diverse people who continue to sustain the growth of Ascension.

The seeds of growth and our rural culture are planted in family, and date back from the time of the Acadians. Family is our priority here. We work hard in the sugarcane fields, the petrochemical plants and service industries and we play equally as hard on the ball fields or hunting and fishing our woods and swamps.

Our industries are players in the global economy and are involved in state-of-the-art technologies such as biofuels.

I invite visitors, newcomers and life-long residents to become better acquainted with everything Ascension Parish offers. Visit our plantations, enjoy the outdoors and our world- famous Jambalaya Festival, attend our special events at Lamar-Dixon Expo Center.

Ascension Parish has much to offer. As the Parish President, it is truly my pleasure to serve the people of Ascension, as we continue to work together to keep the momentum of this parish moving forward. Our way of life has attracted the attention of new people and new businesses, which are bringing economic development opportunities to our parish. Together, we will work to grow and better our community, at a pace that encourages progress, while keeping in step with our rural values and traditions.
