Sorrento was settled by French Acadian descendents around 1860. The first settlement was along Conway Bayou and has a lore and individuality of its own.

An annual Boucherie Festival is held in the fall of the year. The festival is derived from an old custom of the French Acadians when families would get together to butcher hogs to have meat for the winter. Families would help one another prepare their “boucherie.”

In the spring of the year, the Sorrento Volunteer Fire Department hold a “Trail Ride,” where horses and wagons come from far and near to participate.

Sorrento celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2006. The town was incorporated on September 11, 1956.
