On behalf of our more than 100,000 residents, it is my distinct pleasure to bring you greetings and offer a few insights into what so many of us believe is the best place in the world to call home.
Newcomers are drawn to Ascension Parish and so many life-long residents such as myself decide to stay for the very same reasons. Our rich culture, friendly people, fantastic cuisine and excellent employment opportunities have made Ascension Parish the fastest-growing parish in Louisiana for the past 10 years. In fact, we’ve seen a 40 percent growth during that time which keeps us in the top 100 fastest-growing parishes and counties in the nation.
We are proud of our historic roots. As one of 19 parishes of the Territory of Orleans, Ascension Parish originated in 1807. Our riverbanks are home to nearly a dozen Antebellum plantation homes and Donaldsonville, the parish seat, once served as the capital of Louisiana.
From its inception, Ascension Parish has been home to an industrious and welcoming people. We are hard workers; our parish has some two dozen chemical plants and refineries. In addition, we are proud to offer numerous service industries and some of the best shopping areas in South Louisiana.
But, we also know how to have a good time. Our festivals are legendary. We welcome visitors to the Jambalaya Festival in Gonzales, as well as the Juneteenth and Sunshine Festivals in Donaldsonville.
