Breaux Bridge the crawfish capital of the world
There are very few communities that provide the perfect balance of culture
and heritage to create the joie de vivre that is found in Breaux Bridge.
Nature has provided the stunning palate on which the community has been
painted, and Cajun voices and Zydeco provide the soundtrack.
The
Chitimacha Indians, the region’s original inhabitants, have a
legend of an enormous snake that plagued the area. The Chitimacha sent
their warriors to kill the 124-mile long snake; the reptile turned,
coiled and twisted in its death throes to form the Bayou Teche (“Snake”
Bayou).
Breaux
Bridge was born on this beautiful bayou (in the heart of the Acadiana
region just over 30 miles north of the Gulf of Mexico), and like all
great cities, it has a story to tell.
