Another attraction in the area is the music. Cajun and Zydeco have deep roots in Breaux Bridge’s cultural past, and both have the power to move listeners onto the dance floor. Cajun music dates back to the French Acadian settlers. Over the years, other Louisiana cultures made their mark on the music. The songs are usually sung in French, and usually talk about life in the bayou country. Zydeco is a mixture of Cajun, the blues and Louisiana hot sauce.

Zydeco traces its beginnings back to the Creoles of African descent, and its energy is infectious. It is also another indicator of how cultures blended here, as the Creoles created an up-tempo groove on homemade instruments while the harmonic progression was pushed by the accordion – which was introduced by early Germans settlers.
