The Atchafalaya Basin is the continent’s largest river basin. The basin is home to beautiful rivers, cypress trees, hyacinths, water lilies and native animals. Tours and canoe rentals are available.

Scenic Byways

Scenic Byways are leisurely routes that offer visitors a unique experience of the Cajun and Creole lifestyle. The byways are selected for their recreational, scenic, historic, cultural and archeological and natural resources. Breaux Bridge is listed under two scenic byways – Bayou Teche Scenic Byway and the Promised Land Scenic Byway.

Downtown Historic District

Walking tours are a perfect way to see Breaux Bridge’s historic sites. The unique buildings provide a sense of early south Louisiana life.

Lake Martin

Lake Martin is the largest nesting area of wading birds in the United States, and has been listed as one of the top 10 bird watching spots in the United States by the Audubon Society. Lake Martin also has its share of nutria, alligators and fishing opportunities.

Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival (Always the first full weekend in May)

The world famous Crawfish Festival began in 1960 as a spin-off of the Breaux Bridge Centennial Celebration, and thousands of visitors from across the globe now flock to Breaux Bridge to be part of the festivities. The festival provides an authentic depiction of Breaux Bridge’s Cajun heritage, and is a celebration of life here in south Louisiana. The Crawfish Festival has also become one of the largest gatherings of world-famous Cajun musicians.
