There is much to be seen while touring Jeff Davis Parish. Exceptional museums, outdoor and wildlife attractions, gaming and more can all be found within this distinct southwestern Louisiana parish.
A museum not to miss is the Welsh Museum, a project of the Friends of the Welsh Museum. Housed within a brick structure (circa 1903), the museum features more than 500 copies of historic photographs and an assortment of memorabilia showcasing the rich history of the Welsh community. An antique grocery store from the early 1900s, Little Cove, is situated adjacent to the Welsh Museum and provides plenty of tourist information. The Welsh Museum is open Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m-Noon and 2-4 p.m. (337) 734-3811
Additional history is enjoyed at sites throughout the parish, including the old jail on U.S. 190 and the S.A. Pennington House, listed on the National Register of Historic Places – both located in Elton.
Spend the day outdoors by visiting Lake Arthur’s Pieta Prayer Garden, housing an Italian reproduction of Michelangelo’s Pieta – a notable attraction found in Rome’s St. Peter’s Cathedral. The garden can be accessed on the north side of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and is open 24 hours a day. Also be sure to visit Founders Park, nestled in the center of downtown Jennings. The park was constructed as a tribute to the history and founding fathers of Jennings and features a hand-painted, historically significant mural by artist John Zant. Additionally, bird watchers relish in the Flyway Byway, as all kinds of migratory birds pass through Jeff Davis Parish.
