The Jeff Davis Economic Development office has the responsibility of building the local economy by encouraging job creation by both new and established businesses. The office serves as an interface between potential business clients and local and state government agencies. Through the process of economic development, Jeff Davis Parish presents itself as a good place to do business.
The office works on many different fronts to create a dynamic atmosphere for business development. The office maintains an inventory of available sites for business and industrial development. Working with new clients to determine workforce needs and skills and then working with local education officials to develop training regimens to meet those needs is one more aspect of economic development. Marketing and advertising of our assets is an ongoing job.
The office also manages the Jeff Davis Tourist Commission, coordinating all tourist activities—including manning the state-certified Tourist Information Center at the LA Oil & Gas Park. The parish is promoted in magazines and tour guides throughout the nation, and employees regularly participate in major tourism shows.
The Tourist Commission is involved with several major initiatives in the parish, including the development of crawfish farm tours and other ecotourism ideas. A major new scenic road, the Flyway Byway, has received approval from the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism. The office is also proposing the Red Shoes Trail that would lead tourists to Coushatta Cultural Center when its construction is completed next year. Culinary tourism is a main focus with the Roastin’ With Rosie Barbecue Festival in Jennings.

Both offices are actively participating in the Southern Petroleum Art & Recreation Center (SPARC) project, bringing a major new destination attraction to the LA Oil & Gas Park. The SPARC seeks to develop a global energy center where the oil and gas industry is not only documented and celebrated, but the issues of new and developing energy alternatives can be presented and discussed.
