

Jennings is the parish seat of Jeff Davis Parish, a site that is home to the primary parish offices. The parish’s law is enforced by the local Police Jury, a governing body of 13 members representing nine wards. The Police Jury oversees both administrative and legislative functions of parish government. In addition to the Police Jury, each town and city located within the parish is led by a mayor and/or an alderman or council. The area’s educational system is regulated by the 15-member Parish School Board, with David Clayton currently in the position of Superintendent.
On the state level, Jeff Davis Parish is represented by one representative (currently John Guinn), whose 37th district includes all of Jeff Davis Parish and portions of Calcasieu and Acadia parishes. Additionally, the parish is represented by one senator (currently Dan Morrish), whose 25th district is comprised of Jeff Davis Parish, along with parts of Acadia, Vermilion, Calcasieu and Cameron parishes.
