A visit to Jeff Davis Parish is a memorable experience.
Our people live intimately with the past, embracing a rich and diverse culture and traditions that are uniquely ours.
We take pride in offering our guests a memorable experience with a unique cuisine, original music, antiques, cottage shops, festivals, birding, skeet shooting, golf, water sports and true Southern hospitality.
Visitors expect and cherish the small town atmosphere but are astonished to find an art museum that outshines New Orleans with their collection of fine art.
Another unique attraction is the W. H. Tupper General Merchandise Museum, an authentic country store nestled in Jennings’ historic downtown area next to Founder’s Park, where wrought iron benches, landscaped brick patios, a fountain, and an antique clock are the perfect compliment to the 40-foot by 138-foot, hand-painted mural that depicts the history of Jennings.
A visit to the parish should also include a visit to the Chateau Des Cocodries (Alligator House) at the Tourist Information Center. Visitors can hold live baby alligators and observe large gators in an open-air enclosure.
The Town of Welsh promotes itself as “Gateway to the Lacassine Wildlife Refuge,” a hunter’s and fisherman’s paradise and one of the major wintering grounds for waterfowl in the United States. This quaint town includes brick sidewalks and old New Orleans-style street lamps, and it is home to classic south Louisiana festivals and celebrations.
Natural beauty and opportunities for recreational hunting and fishing have drawn people to Lake Arthur to live or visit. Beautiful homes grace the lakefront with cypress knees and trees draped with Spanish moss. The lake provides a flourishing resource for economic growth and potential prosperity for the parish. It’s a heavenly spot made for sitting and dreaming.
