Sports and Fitness

The citizens of Lafayette Parish have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of physical activities such as biking, running, horseback riding, golf, as well as a large selection of fitness clubs and studios.

Red Lerille’s Health and Racquet Club, better known as Red’s, was established in 1963 in a very small building on Johnston Street. Forty-eight years later it encompasses 20 acres, including 210,000 square feet under roof, making it one of the largest and longest-running health clubs in the country.

Sports and Fitness

Red’s includes two separate co-ed fitness facilities, a women’s only and youth workout facilities. Other amenities include a large cardiovascular training area, three indoor tennis courts, 20 outdoor tennis courts, a full collegiate-size basketball court, four racquetball courts, a squash court, a junior Olympic adult pool, two indoor pools and a kids mini water park. Also included are four separate group fitness rooms, Pilate’s equipment room, a kinesis training room, outdoor and indoor boot camp courses and a new 10,000-square-foot athletic training facility. Other facilities include a boxing gym, snack bar, pro shop, coffee bar, lounge and nursery.

University of Louisiana at Lafayette Athletics

The university participates in NCAA Division I football, baseball, women’s soccer, softball, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, tennis, track and field and cross country. Club and intramural sports, such as the past national champion water ski team, are also offered. These nationally recognized programs continue to grow and succeed each year.

UL Ragin’ Cajuns

Congratulations to the UL Ragin’ Cajuns! The New Orleans Bowl Championship was a major milestone for the entire community. In addition to a major win, the football team brought national attention to Lafayette.

Acadiana businesses and residents enjoy watching their Ragin’ Cajun athletic events. For news, schedules, statistics and tickets visit www.ragincajuns.com.
