St. Landry Parish Healthcare

St. Landry Parish’s healthcare is growing to accommodate its current residents and rapidly expanding population. With two hospitals combining for over 75 years of community service, Doctors’ Hospital and Opelousas General Health System (OGHS) continue to expand their specialized medical services with state-of-the art facilities and procedures.

OGHS was established in 1957 and has grown to a 181-bed, full service regional medical center as complete and as inclusive as any referral hospital in the state. Likewise, Doctors’ Hospital was established in 1981 and is a 171-bed, full service acute-care hospital on two campuses and is emerging as Acadiana’s premier community hospital.

Both facilities are JCAHO accredited to ensure the highest quality of patient care. With over 1,000 employees between the two local hospitals, the parish now has over 200 local, active physicians in a multitude of specialties. Patients no longer need to drive to Lafayette for the much needed medical services we can offer right here at home.

Specialty procedures and services such as specialized diagnostic and interventional cardiology, intensive care, 24-hour emergency care, orthopedic and spine, gynecological, surgical, pediatrics and oncology services are all available right here in St. Landry Parish.

In addition to these outstanding in-patient services, out-patient diagnostic testing continues to grow and improve. Applying only the most advanced imaging techniques available in the industry, Doctors’ Hospital boasts the highest and most advanced level of CT technology available and one of only a handful of PET scanners in the entire state for diagnosis of cancers and other life-threatening diseases. Complementing its hospital-based imaging center, OGHS has an off-campus medical imaging center located 10 miles south on I-49 in Sunset, LA.
