Welcome to St. Landry Parish! From the Saturday Night Live Radio Show at the Liberty Theater in Eunice, hosting the best in Cajun and Zydeco music, to the Atchafalaya Gateway towns of Krotz Springs and Melville, St. Landry Parish captures the spirit of the people of Acadiana.
And the St. Landry Parish Tourist Commission is proud to be able to share that spirit with you!

St. Landry Parish offers several historic districts enabling the preservation of its splendid past. Washington, Acadiana’s Antique Capitol, was once the largest steamboat port between New Orleans and St. Louis.
It has retained much of its 19th century architecture and character and is an antique shopper’s dream. Grand Coteau, graced with its majestic oaks, features over 70 historic structures, with many unique cottage industries springing up, as well as two of the nation’s oldest religious institutions. Nearby in Sunset, stands Chretien Point, a superb antebellum home, parts of which were copied for the movie “Gone With the Wind.”
Opelousas, the third oldest settlement in Louisiana and the parish seat of St. Landry, abounds with Civil War history and has been proclaimed the Zydeco Capitol of the World. Not only does Opelousas have great musical talent, but wait until you taste its cooking. Being the home of Chefs Paul Prudhomme and Tony Chachere, what else would you expect! You can see all of this and much more while traveling the Zydeco-Cajun Prairie Scenic Byway.
We have beautiful bed & breakfast accommodations, as well as comfortable hotels/motels and campgrounds for your stay. Helpful information may be found at any of the tourist centers located in Washington, Opelousas or Eunice.
St. Landry Parish celebrates its history and culture with many weekend festivals throughout the parish. So we invite you to dance to our indigenous Cajun and Zydeco music, taste the cuisine that’s made our cooking loved the world over and meet people to whom hospitality is as natural as getting up in the morning!
And after you’ve paid us a visit, you may just want to call St. Landry Parish home. We’ve been designated as one of seven Certified Retirement Communities by the Louisiana Retirement Commission. So come and “embrace life” and retire in St. Landry Parish!
