Abbeville General Hospital

The medical landscape of Vermilion Parish is extensive, with virtually all healthcare specialties and subspecialties represented. The parish is well-equipped with two accredited hospital campuses, along with a number of excellent health clinics and physician offices.

Since 1966, Abbeville General Hospital (AGH) has provided Vermilion Parish and its closely surrounding area with high quality and compassionate medical care. Over its more than 40-year history, AGH has undergone a number of expansion, renovation and modernization projects, transforming the hospital into an outstanding 60-bed, acute-care facility. The exhaustive list of services and programs found through AGH includes cardiopulmonary, diagnostic imaging and laboratory, urology, 24-hour emergency care, obstetrics, medical/surgical and orthopedics, among many others. The hospital also offers a variety of outpatient services, including day surgery, IV therapy and an intensive psychiatric treatment program.

Women’s Health of Vermilion

In addition to the main hospital campus, AGH operates two rural health clinics in the parish. The Abbeville General Hospital Clinic, located a 2419 Alonzo Street, provides a range of family health services, including pediatrics, internal medicine, geriatrics and a number of community services, such as laboratory, immunizations, flu shots, blood pressure checks and more. The clinic also houses Women’s Health of Vermilion. The Maurice Community Care Clinic is the second rural facility run by AGH. This clinic provides many of the same services found at the Abbeville Clinic and also participates in the Community Care Program and Kid Med Program. The Maurice Clinic is located at 207 Milton Road.

An affiliate of Lafayette General Medical Center, Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital is a 50-bed, acute-care facility serving Vermilion Parish. Located at 1310 W. 7th Street in Kaplan, the hospital employs more than 100 medical professionals and offers everything from general surgery, pediatrics and rehabilitation to 24-hour emergency care, laboratory and radiology.

Lafayette General Medical Center

One of the newest additions to the parish’s medical community came in 2006 with the establishment of the Gulf Regional Occupational & Industrial Medicine Center at 121 E. St. Victor Street in Abbeville. Further community health resources are accessed through the Abbeville Community Health Center at 800 Charity Street, offering medical, dental and mental health services, along with the MedXcel facility at 121 Tivoli in Abbeville. MedXcel is a walk-in clinic specializing in a multitude of healthcare fields. Seniors are also supported through a host of skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities and hospice care services.
