Excellence in education at all levels is a cornerstone in the life of Vermilion Parish residents. The Vermilion Parish School System operates 18 facilities throughout the area, including 10 elementary schools, three middle schools and five high schools. Specialized education programs, free adult education classes, student support services and a wide range of co-curricular activities supplement a rigorous traditional curriculum. Nine Vermilion schools received Recognized or Exemplary Growth on School Performance Scores. Vermilion Parish Schools District Performance Scores have risen from 22nd to 11th in Louisiana in the past 10 years and are first in the region. Vermilion ranks fifth in Louisiana for classes taught by highly qualified teachers.
The area is also home to a great number of early childhood education and day care centers, as well as a list of private and parochial institutions. Exceptional alternatives to public education can be found through several private elementary and middle schools, as well as Vermilion Catholic High School, the only Catholic high school in the parish.
Through a strong partnership between community and the educational system, Vermilion excels in supporting education.
