Mayors of Vermilion Parish

On behalf of the Mayors of Vermilion Parish, Welcome to The “Most Cajun” Place on Earth! You have made a wonderful choice in asking for information about Vermilion Parish. We have to warn you, people move here and find over time that they can’t bring themselves to leave. We have a special kind of people here in Vermili°©on Parish, neighbors that help neighbors just as if they were family.

If you are looking for “toe tappin’” Cajun music, the best seafood—from salty oysters on the half shell to boiled crawfish and everything in between—hunting, fishing and a warm friendly Cajun welcome, you need look no further than Vermilion Parish.

Nestled along the shores of Vermilion Bay, the parish lies in an area where agriculture and aquaculture abound. Farmers produce rice, sugarcane, cattle, crawfish and alligators; a large quantity of which ultimately finds its way into the cooking pots of many a local chef or home cook.

The landscape here in south central Louisiana is made up of prairies and wetlands that support cities and communities sprinkled like so many jewels along the Jean Lafitte Scenic Byway. Travel the route and you will visit communities whose histories and cultures date back to the 1800s and beyond.

We welcome you to Vermilion Parish where the music is lively, the food is spicy and the people are some of the nicest you will ever meet.
