The Amtrak train system makes several daily stops on Saco Island, in route from Boston to Portland. Travel by train makes the trip to and from Boston relatively easy for commuters, and it’s a relaxing day trip for visitors, whether going to Boston or Portland. Parking on Saco Island is free. The port of Portland, just three miles from open ocean, is an ice-free, deep water port approximately 15 miles north of the area. Portsmouth Harbor (NH) and the Port of Boston (MA) are both within easy access.
The Saco River has limited access by private vessels with a MLW depth of eight feet (10 feet during high tide.)
