The City Theater was designed by noted architect John Calvin Stevens and first opened in 1896. The 500-plus-seat theater is recognized as one of the finest Victorian opera houses in the country and has been included on the National Register of Historic Sites. Many famous celebrities have graced our stage as the century has unfolded. Fred Astaire, Mae West, and W. C. Fields have contributed to the elaborate past of what was once the Biddeford Opera House. Concerts, plays, lectures, film showings and other programs are regularly scheduled at the magnificently restored facility. City Theater is located at 205 Main Street, Biddeford.
