Biddeford and Saco are the least expensive places to buy a house along the coast from Kittery to Portland. Several housing developments have sprung up in both cities. The area has seen an addition of new or extended streets to accommodate new homes.
Development of “retirement communities” has begun in both cities, as well as condominium complexes and duplex units. Some old mill buildings have been converted to condos as well.
In general, housing can consist of multi-family apartment houses, duplexes, condos, mobile home parks or single-family homes. Properties vary in type from single-family Capes with small yards to large multi-family homes and sprawling properties along the river, such as large old Colonials, New Englanders and Victorians.
Developments for senior housing, family housing and gated communities have begun to be built, offering the kind of quiet life Maine is so famous for.
