Gorham is a charming New England town with over 14,000 friendly people in the southern part of Maine just west of Portland. It was founded in 1736 and incorporated in 1764 with a population of 340. The past two and a half centuries of history and all the wonders of nature can be explored in Gorhams stone walls, bright red barns, sugar maple trees and tall white pines. Gorham is famous for its rolling hills and having one of the last covered bridges in southern Maine. The town was predominantly based on agriculture until the late 1970s when it became a bedroom community of Portland. Soon after with its location near the U.S. coast making it attractive for companies interested in the world market, and its excellent educational system featuring a campus of the University of Southern Maine, Gorham became an excellent place for business. Now Gorham continues to grow as people are attracted to its location and excellent facilities. Combine that with the community spirit of its citizens, which is unique among Maines towns, and you have a great place to live, a great place to work, and a great place to learn.
